From Dorm Rooms to Dreams – Life, Jeezy & the Soundtrack of the Hustle

Let me take y’all back real quick.

This past Sunday night, I went to the TM101 Young Jeezy concert… and whew, it was an awakening. The kind that hits your chest, stirs up your spirit, and unlocks memories you forgot were still sitting inside you.

As soon as that first beat dropped, I was right back in my college dorm room at Fairleigh Dickinson University, blasting Jeezy and Jay-Z like they were professors and I was taking notes. Their words? My syllabus. Their beats? The background to everything, from late-night study sessions, to early morning walks back from Club Abyss and Divas.

Sidebar: I really, truly miss Abyss and Club Sho. You had to be there. If you know, you know.

Back then, I was building the foundation of what would become King Elizabeth Makeup Artistry, with a makeup kit in one hand and dreams too big to fit in the other. Jeezy wasn’t just music he was motivation. He was the voice that echoed through those clubs I worked in, the ones that gave me access to photoshoots … that led to video sets… that opened doors to television, campaigns, and now, films.

“Your favorite trapper’s favorite trapper” wasn’t just a bar; it was a mindset. A reminder that I had to hustle smart, hustle hard, and hustle consistently.

Hearing “Go Crazy (Remix)” or “And Then What” Sunday night had me time-traveling to moments where I wanted to give up, when bookings were slow, when money was tight, and I was running on empty but still pushing through. There was no glam squad, no call sheet ; just me, my passion, and the music that kept me going.

And now? To not only see my dreams unfolding, but also watch Jeezy's evolution from TM101 to mogul, author, and generational voice — it hit different.

This season of life is all about reflection and alignment. Seeing Jeezy live reminded me that we all start somewhere. Sometimes it’s a dorm room, sometimes it’s a DJ booth, sometimes it’s a club at 2 a.m. Either way, what matters is that you keep showing up ... even when it’s hard, even when you’re tired, even when no one else sees the vision but you.

So here's to growth. To the hustle. To the music that moves us.And to the dreams we’re still chasing.

Now it’s your turn I want to hear from you:

💿 If your life had a soundtrack, what would be the first song on the album? The one that defines the moment you were really grinding head down, heart full, hustling like your life depended on it?
